Corpus Christi FC will conclude their three consecutive away days in the USL League Two with the long haul trip to Mississipi to take on Mississipi Brilla, five days after the first defeat of 2019 at the hands of Brazos Valley Cavalry FC.
Despite the loss to last season’s Mid South Division champions last week, there were a lot of positives to take away from the trip to Bryan, and head coach Dr. Sebastian Giraldo remains incredibly positive about the upcoming showdown in Mississipi.
So, what else do we need to know this time around as we take on the Brilla?
WHO ARE MISSISSIPI BRILLA?
Brilla are one of the elder USL League Two teams, having formed in 2006. Brilla is associated with Brilla Soccer Ministries, an organization which aims to share Christianity through the sport of soccer.
The club formerly competed in the Southeast Division of the USL, which they have won on three occasions. Since their move to the Mid South Division in 2014, they have finished top of the table just once, back in 2015.
Brilla are led by head coach Luke Sanford.
WHAT HAPPENED LAST SEASON AGAINST MISSISSIPI BRILLA?
This will be the first meeting between Brilla and the Sharks, as last season, Brilla competed in the Deep South division, whilst CCFC played what was their inaugural season in the Mid South region.
HOW HAVE MISSISSIPI FAIRED SO FAR?
Brilla have played three games thus far, registering two wins – which included a 7-1 demolition of Texas United – and one tie.
As a result, they sit second in the table, one point above the Sharks in third and two behind leaders the Brazos VCFC.
A WORD FROM THE BOSS
“We were not happy with the result at Cavalry, but the reality is that we played well and created numerous chances. The team continues to be highly motivated and are working towards our season objectives.
“Brilla are on of the model USL organizations on and off the field. We expect an intense game between two top teams in the Southern conference. We know we have to take our chances and minimize any mental mistakes.”
