As a longtime supporter of Liverpool Football Club, I took great interest in Peter Merkl’s Forum which appeared on Oct. 26. I want to point out other advantages of being a fan of football (as the sport is known to the rest of the world). In almost all cases, a game will just last two hours. You can almost set your watch by it. And during actual play, there are no commercial interruptions.
Furthermore, you may be interested to know that Corpus Christi has a newly established professional football team, Corpus Christi FC- The Sharks that will be playing its home games at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, giving the opportunity to experience a live match. And next year you may want to check out the World Cup on TV, even though, due to a sequence of unfortunate events, the U.S. Men’s Team did not qualify for the competition in Russia.
By the way, true football supporters and fans are not “hooligans,” which is considered a derogatory term. So, welcome to the sport. I wish you many years of enjoyment as you learn more about the sport and gain further appreciation for the “beautiful game.”
